8 Days Until Left 4 Dead demo

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

For those of us that pre-ordered it, that is. Everyone else gets it November 11. Hopefully I can continue the pace with the comics once it actually comes out, although I fully intend to spend a great deal of time with it for at least a while. I’m hoping I can get in with a good bunch of guys that actually like teamwork. Right….

Left 4 Dead demo… finally

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

I’ve had the opportunity to play the Left 4 Dead demo on my 2 year old HP laptop. I only played SP, and even set to lowest settings, my framerate was scarier than the zombies. Looks like my hopes of some after-work fun are dashed for now. I’ll play tonight on my new machine.

I did manage to get to the end of the demo (we all died at the end!). The buddy AI seems quite competent, and the AI director really mixed things up. A couple of times it really surprised me that enemies showed up where they did.

Update:

I played quite a bit last night on my good PC (good except for random BSoDs). The game is fantastic. As you’ve probably heard, there are issues on the MP side that are being worked on. I’m confident that it will all get worked out, and I don’t regret pre-ordering at all. The game truly requires a lot of cooperation. Playing with people who aren’t using voice communication is a drag. People, hook up your mics!

Lots of Zombies to Shoot

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I beat Call of Duty World at War’s SP campaign. Or should I say cam-pain. Luckily the zombie mode it unlocks seems like it will be worth it. I’ve yet to try it co-op but my first go with it was great fun.

But that’s small news compared to the fact that Left 4 Dead is now out. I’ve only played through the entire No Mercy campaign so far. What an ending! This will surely hold my interest for a while… I wonder how many Left 4 Dead comics I can create? ;)

New Comic and update on Descent

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Hit the “Latest Comic” button above for the latest comic, featuring that finest of Mortal Kombats, number 2. I’ve had a chance to play a bit with my new boardgame, Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Not with actual humans yet, which is fine since the game has a bit of a learning curve and I want to be prepared. But I think it has a lot of potential. There’s quite a bit of community content for the game, including an entire variant ruleset that turns the game into Left 4 Dead – the boardgame. I haven’t had a chance to look into that one yet. Some people take the time to paint the 80 miniatures that come with the game. That would be awesome, but I think it’s safe to say that if I attempted that, this site would turn to dust. :)
