Descent: Journeys In The Dark

Friday, March 20th, 2009

I had decided that I wanted to pick up a cool fantasy boardgame in the vein of Hero Quest. It’s not really like me, since I am often short on flesh and blood opponents, but I started doing some research anyway. After a lot of digging on boardgamegeek and youtube, I decided on Descent: Journeys In The Dark. It’s basically D&D lite, with one player handling the operation of the dungeon, defending against up to 4 heroes.

The game retails for $80, and tonight I managed to scoop it up on ebay for $67 shipped, brand new, still sealed. I would have had it for $60, but some tool sniped it up $7 at the last moment. Thanks, dick, I still won.

I’ll post more about the game once I get the chance to check it out.

New Comic and update on Descent

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Hit the “Latest Comic” button above for the latest comic, featuring that finest of Mortal Kombats, number 2. I’ve had a chance to play a bit with my new boardgame, Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Not with actual humans yet, which is fine since the game has a bit of a learning curve and I want to be prepared. But I think it has a lot of potential. There’s quite a bit of community content for the game, including an entire variant ruleset that turns the game into Left 4 Dead – the boardgame. I haven’t had a chance to look into that one yet. Some people take the time to paint the 80 miniatures that come with the game. That would be awesome, but I think it’s safe to say that if I attempted that, this site would turn to dust. :)
