New monitor

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

I finally joined this decade and got a wide-screen monitor. Newegg.com had a great deal on Friday and I couldn’t pass it up. I’m now running at 1680 x 1050 and loving it. I can’t get over how bright this thing is. My other monitor was a 19″ Planar LCD purchased shortly after Battlefield 1942 came out (I miss that game) and it’s still going strong, but after seeing this Samsung I’ll not be going back.

I did not buy Midway

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

You may have heard that a dude named Mark Thomas just bought controlling interest in Midway for $100,000. I also happen to be a dude named Mark Thomas, but I spent my $100,000 on pumpkins. Sadly I did not sell them prior to Halloween.

Rest assured that if I had purchased Midway, equal parts Gauntlet and Mortal Kombat would be added to a videogame soup that would taste sweet indeed.

I’ll take some friends

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

If you want to be popular, you’ve got to have friends, even if they are fake ones you’ve never met. Feel free to add me on facebook, or giantbomb. Hopefully I make these links properly, I’m not very skilled at facebook.

Space Rangers 2

Friday, December 12th, 2008

If you missed Space Rangers 2 when it came out, now is your chance to make amends. It’s on sale at Impulse right now for a mere $4. To say that this game contains more than $4 worth of entertainment is like saying that the Orange Box was a “pretty good deal.”

I’ll try to summarize the types of actions possible in Space Rangers 2. You can do any and all of the following: be an interplanetary trader, be a pirate, conduct RTS-style planet invasions, play 2D space shooter sequences, play missions that are actually text adventures, level up your pilot, outfit numerous spacecraft…. The list could go on. Just about every genre short of FPS is crammed in here somewhere.

Oh, and if you are like me, and you loathe the RTS genre, don’t let that dissuade you. It’s only one piece of many, and it’s not bad.

Last strip of the year on Christmas

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

The last strip of the year will go up on Christmas. The following week will surely be spent immersed in Gears of War 2. I specifically avoided purchasing it when it came out for two reasons- it preceded Left 4 Dead by only a few days, and I always have trouble coming up with Christmas gift ideas, so I marked Gears for a gift idea. I told myself that if I got through Christmas and still wasn’t holding a copy of it in my hand, I’d go buy it then.

I’m actually a bit surprised that I haven’t missed a week on the strip yet. It’s been tough keeping to the schedule, but it’s important that I do it since slacking could get addictive. It’s also surprising that I’m still interested in doing the strip. It’s pretty hard to get the word out about a webcomic, considering there are literally thousands of them out there. I’ve definitely got bluesnews to thank, as well as left4dead411.

Whether you celebrate any of the upcoming holidays or not, I hope you have fun, and be safe. Currently the roads around here are coated with ice.
